This is a giant breed, a natural guard dog. They are very independent but also extremely affectionate and loyal. They could be classed as 'stubborn'!
They are heavily coated, the dogs more so than the bitches so not a breed for those that don't enjoy grooming.
Pyreneans love to bark - its what they do best. They will bark at the slightest thing and this can annoy your neighbours. Dogs are bigger than the bitches at around 28 inches at the shoulder and weighing around 50 to 60 kilos. Puppies grow extremely fast - they have a lot of growing to do and training must begin immediately. Puppies must not be allowed to jump on and off furniture or run up and down stairs - this can damage their joints and result in costly vet bills.
The Pyrenean is essentially a lazy dog, not a greedy eater. They are most happy lying in a cool spot watching the world go by around them without having to move unless they really must. On no account should a Pyrenean be trained to guard - this comes naturally. We welcome visitors to see and meet all of our dogs - by prior arrangement.
